Enactment of Ramayana attracts large audience

New Delhi, Oct 8 (ANI): The hugely popular Ramlila or the enactment of Ramayana saw people thronging in large numbers in New Delhi.

&#39Ramlila&#39, basically is an enactment of Lord Ram&#39s life, which is presented as a cycle-play with the story varying from 7 to 31 days.

The festive fervor of the people comes alive with the rich performance of the traditional folk artists at the Ramlila.

The stage wears a festive look with the artists dressed in colourful attires, intricate jewellery, masks, headgear, make-up and decoration.

Ramlila is quite good. We have been seeing it for past two to three years. The artists perform very well, said Nikhil, a member of the audience.

People believe that these performances provide an opportunity to their children to revive their heritage and culture.

Children don&#39t enjoy watching traditional shows. Here they get to know about our culture and tradition, said Nidhi, another member of the audience.

Though the member of the folk operas have diminished in the recent years because of the influence of Bollywood and mythological serials still extravagant Ramlila performance attracts huge audience during the Navratra festival.

The Ramlila continues all the nine nights of Navratra festival, which culminates, with the burning of effigies of demon King Ravana who was killed by Lord Rama.

Legend has it that Ram&#39s consort Sita was abducted by demon King Ravana.

Ram went in war with Ravana to release his wife from captivity. Ram&#39s victory over Ravana is described as the triumph of good over evil. (ANI)
